Molchanov

(52 Passengers)

Introduction

Carrying only 52 passengers, the Molchanov is a modern and comfortable oceanographic research vessel. Built in 1983 in Finland, she is made of steel with an ice-strengthened hull perfect for polar travel in Antarctica and the Arctic. The ship has been converted for passenger use and is ideally suited for expedition cruising. The ship has a good anti-roll system, a range of 70 days independent operation, and is ISM certified.

The Molchanov has the Russian ice-class notation LU(1), which is identical with Lloyds Register 1D.

The Molchanov is manned by enthusiastic Russian crews of around 20, all highly experienced in ice navigation with Russian captains who are recognized experts in polar navigation. The ship was named after Professor Pavil Alexandric Molchanov, who was a famous meteorologist born in the USSR in 1893.

Great Views

The ship has a large bridge (where you are almost always welcome) and good open deck-viewing areas. It carries a full complement of Zodiac craft, excellent for landings and wildlife viewing opportunities in otherwise in-accessible areas.

International Chefs prepare hearty meals which are served in the dining room, which also acts as the lecture room. Other public areas include a lounge and bar, small library, infirmary, and sauna.

Traveling on Multanovskiy is like being on your own private vessel, with a cozy casual feeling all around.
