Introduction

Scandinavian-built for the Russian Academy of Science, the Vavilov was designed to travel quietly during hydro-acoustic research. This ship is maneuverable and yet exceptionally stable, due to external stabilizers and a built-in trimming system. Akademik Sergey Vavilov has an ice-strengthened hull and a cruising speed in open water of 14.5 knots. This expedition ship is designed for polar adventure trips in Antarctica and the Arctic.

The Vavilov is impressive and neat as a pin,..which is refered to as 'Bristol Condition' in sailing terms. The ship is operated by one of the largest and oldest shipping companies. Polar Cruises have sailed on this ship many times and are always impressed with the service and the ship."

Rates are per person based on double occupancy. Single cabin prices are 1.7 times the cost of the appropriate twin-share prices listed above except for superior and above which are 2x the price listed above. All cabins are smoke-free. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas only. Rates include mandatory emergency evacuation insurance for all passengers to a maximum of $100,000 per person. Adventure options available: sea kayaking $825per person add-on and overnight camping option is $225 per person on selected cruises. Adventure Options are booked on a first come, first served basis, therefore it is highly likely that there will be no spaces available if you wait until aboard to book.
