Whichaway Land-Based Antarctic Specialty Trips
Emperor & South Pole: Whichaway Camp from Cape Town
12 Passengers

A trip designed for the time-strapped traveller ready to experience new horizons in luxury travel. This 4-day adventure will transport you to Antarctica via private jet, and the dramatic Wolf's Fang peak — rising 3,300ft (1,000m) out of the ice — part of the Drygalski mountain range. You will be based at our luxury Whichaway Camp, situated at the bottom of a 200ft icefall, from where you will go out each day to take part in our activities.

With only 12 clients on each adventure and professional polar explorers as your guides, the day’s itineraries are tailored to each individual. From gentle treks and picnics overlooking the ice waves, to more adrenalin fueled activities, such as kite-skiing and ice climbing.

This itinerary is entirely subject to weather conditions in Antarctica and is meant as an approximate guide of what clients can expect.

Day Prior to Departure

After lunch, we will transfer you to the stunning winelands of Constantia – located about 25 mins drive from the city center. At our offices, we will host a safety briefing where we will check through all your items of polar clothing and ensure they are right for your journey. There is a small clothing shop where you can purchase or exchange items should you need. We will also explain the latest weather forecasts and providing the latest information as to our estimated time of departure.

Day 1

The flight to Antarctica is 5.5hrs, crossing the thousands of icebergs spread over the southern ocean. Halfway through the flight we cross into the polar circle and into 24hrs continuous daylight. Landing on the specialist ice runway, you will be surrounded by the Wolf’s Fang range, a true spectacle of the continent. We spend the afternoon among the half-mile-high monoliths of rock, before connecting to Whichaway camp.

Day 2

Wake up at Whichaway camp and do as much or as little as you like each day. Activities can be as easy and gentle or adventurous and adrenaline-fuelled. Take time out to put a brush to canvas or learn to rock climb on a nearby ‘nunatak’ mountain. The choice is up to you.

Day 3

We explore the Schirmacher oasis – a rare stretch of terra firma surrounded on all sides by the ice cap of Antarctica. Visit a nearby science base to learn more about the research and work happening in the world of discovery.

Day Four

After a hearty breakfast prepared by our chefs, we board the final flight that will cross the Drygalski Mountains to the Wolf’s Fang runway. A champagne celebration will be prepared to salute your unforgettable trip to the last great wilderness on earth before the 5.5hrs flight to Capetown.
